Plantation, FL – (October 21st, 2017) SEPI Marketing’s employees turned busy volunteers are hard at work unloading, sorting and repacking donations given from South Florida communities to aid the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
On September 22nd Hurricane Maria drenched Puerto Rico with over 40 inches of rain in 24 hours. Coupled with 125 mph sustained winds, Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority claimed that the power system was basically “destroyed.” Gov. Ricardo Rosello said that Maria was, “The most devastating storm to hit the island this century.” Many Americans banded together for Puerto Rico and SEPI Marketing went all in.
SEPI Marketing donated over 12,000 square feet of their warehouse as a staging area for donations to the people of Puerto Rico. Directing Southeast efforts to help was Shuzz Foundation, a 501 (c3) relief organization that is best known for supplying over 108,000 pairs of shoes to the needy. At the helm for Shuzz Foundation was Committee Member Enid Alvarado. “Southeast Publications has done an extraordinary job in helping with the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief efforts. From the kindness of their hearts, they opened their warehouse for us to store all the supplies collected by different organizations in the Tri-County area. They have gone above and beyond, from allowing us to utilize all their equipment and supplies to lending they’re own staff and executives to help. It has been an overall amazing experience to work with Southeast Publications, and they’re an amazing staff. The people of Puerto Rico will be forever thankful, and so will I,” Mrs. Alvarado states.
Nandy Serrano spokesman for the Major League Baseball Player Association states, “On behalf of the Association and the players, we thank the generous support given to Puerto Rico in their time of need.”
Owners of SEPI Marketing, Wally and Kim Warrick were probably the most visible on the floor carrying boxes and sorting canned goods. Kim states, “I know firsthand the damage that is done by these hurricanes.” Kim Warrick a 16-year firefighter and first responder is often working during Hurricanes helping those directly affected by storms visiting South Florida. “It is tragic what is happening to those people, and we knew we had to help,” says Kim.
Not too far away from Kim, Wally Warrick could be seen offloading trucks of water and blankets. “So far we have sorted about 63 pallets of canned food and paper goods. We needed to be sure none of these items contained glass or other items that could not be shipped. There are volunteers all over, and we want to lighten their load as well.”
Looking on, one could see all the hard work sorting boxes, repackaging their items and carrying them to the appropriate pallet, yet everyone working were all smiles. Wally recognizes this dynamic and the efforts put in by his team and states. “You know, I’m proud of our employees. Many of them did not have to spend their weekend at work, doing some pretty tough lifting but they did, and that speaks to the heart of SEPI Marketing.”
Teresa Wilson, Customer Service Manager for SEPI Marketing, while on the warehouse floor states, “It’s one thing to give, and I know the owners give a lot to a variety of charitable organizations, but it is another thing to see everyone at our company working so hard to help those in need.” Teresa has been with SEPI Marketing for over 17 years and she says that the main reason she stays is the culture of giving and gratitude set forth early in the company.
