Peter Warrick, Founder & Visionary (1947– 2010)
Peter Warrick was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947 and became a resident of Fort Lauderdale in 1949. He was a graduate of Fort Lauderdale High School, Class of `66 and attended Broward Community College.
Peter started his business career with Burger King Corporation in 1965 as an hourly employee and left Burger King in 1973 as Regional Manager to start his own business.
In 1972, Peter opened Warrick Custom Hobbies. In 2012, Warrick Custom Hobbies, aka, “The Hobby Super Store”, has been renamed to “Maniacs Hobby” and is one of the leading hobby retailers in the USA with sales worldwide.
In 1974, Peter started Vespa of Fort Lauderdale and was a major dealer for Vespa of America. In 1983, he became a Yamaha Motor Scooter dealer. Peter entered the market again in the scooter business in 2006 and opened what is now The Scooter Superstore of America in Hollywood, Florida. Since then, he opened 10 scooter and motorcycle stores in Florida and Georgia that are still in operation.
Peter started an advertising agency, Southeast Publications USA, Inc. of Fort Lauderdale. This business serviced many different types of business industries with printed products and other needs on a nationwide basis. Under Peter’s leadership, Southeast Publications USA, Inc. grew to service over 1,300 accounts every year. Some other products include Marina Maps, Fairground Interim Directories, Hotel/Motel Room Guides, Guest Guides and Campus Guides for major Universities, Community Colleges and Private Schools. In addition,other services included providing Real Estate Guides, Shopping Center Directories, Chamber of Commerce Maps and Golf Guides.
In 1994, Southeast Publications USA started donating funds raised from the annual auctions at the Spring and Fall Company meetings to KOA Care Camps 501(c)3. Today, Southeast Publications continues to raise money for this cause to benefit children with cancer and give them the experience of camping.
Peter was an active member of numerous community programs including Prestige Club, Crime Stoppers of Broward, Boys and Girls Club of Broward, 100 Club of Broward, Sheriffs Advisory Council, Broward Sheriff’s Office Gang Task Force, Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council and Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary and Sheriffs Association of Florida, among others.
Peter was formally active in Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, Crime Watch of Fort Lauderdale, Crime Stoppers of Volusia County, Broward County Chiefs of Police Association, as well as numerous other charity, community and government organizations.
Peter Warrick passed away in 2010 and his legacy still continues today under the leadership of his son, Wally Warrick, current CEO and through the dedicated team of professionals who are “THE BEST” in the industry.
Wayne H. Morris, Vice President (1945 – 2012)
Wayne Morris was born in Atlanta, GA in 1945 and was a longtime resident of Forsyth, GA.
Wayne married his wife Carlene in Forsyth, GA in 1973 and then moved to Kentucky for a few years. Wayne was a truck driver for Howard Johnson and enjoyed driving trucks for 20 years. Wayne was also an avid RV’er and told everyone how he and Carlene left Kentucky on January 30, 1986 in a 35-foot 5th wheel and never looked back.
In 1990, Wayne and Carlene began their lifestyle with the Southeast Publications family and for 22 years his partnership and dedication helped founder Peter Warrick escalate Southeast Publications success to what it is today and what it has represented for the last 26 years. Wayne led the sales force by example and with diligent professionalism. Wayne was dedicated to helping Southeast Publications’ Sales Associates be more proficient and successful with their independent business practices and spent time developing better recruiting and training procedures to ensure high success rates for all Sales Associates.
Throughout all of their travels and time on the road, Wayne and Carlene continued their commitment to community improvement. They eventually returned to Forsyth and purchased Betsy Lynn Apartments in 1995 and, most recently, Ridgewood Apartments in 2008. Adding to his support of local merchants, Wayne took pride in being able to give back to the local community.
Wayne’s knowledge in the RVing industry was tremendous and he truly understood all aspects of RVing, whether it was being a resident expert on what RV’ers needed or offering Resorts his advice on attracting and appeasing their RVing customers. He also sat on the board for multiple associations, providing his vast experience and insight as guidance to help promote the industry he loved. He was a leader and an inspiration and touched the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to meet him.
Aside from being Vice President at Southeast Publications, Wayne was a member of the board for KOA Care Camps. With the influence of Wayne, Southeast Publications has raised and donated over $550,000 since 1994 to benefit children with cancer and give them the experience of camping.
Wayne passed away in 2012 and his wife Carlene still remains as Vice President.
